I Won On A Horse!

I FORGOT to post this at the time, but The Great Alfie won me the princely sum of £5 (at 5/1) on last Tuesday's 2.10 at Epsom. How exciting!

Ladbrooke's cashier asked me whether it was a tip and I said no, just my lucky formula. My system involves eyeing up the odds on all contenders. If those on the top 2-3 are ridiculously short I don't bother with any. But if they're spread out so no individual horse really stands out, I usually go 3 or 4 horses down to the one with the nicest name (!) and odds no shorter than 5/1, no longer than 15/1. I've been lucky using this method quite a few times.

Unlike with dogs. Singly, in combination, whatever fancy tricast I tried to make ("reversed" or otherwise) I never EVER won so much as 1p on a dog. So it was quite refreshing to get this free £5 from a betting shop. Usually all they're good for is the free pens!

Illustration: Hedgehunter, winner of the 2005 Grand National, ridden by Ruby Walsh (a man). Couldn't find a snap of The Great Alfie. He must be camera-shy!!
The other picture is Girls Aloud's Sarah Harding. Prettier than Cheryl Cole (in my opinion...)

MUSICAL INTERLUDE: GIRLS ALOUD ~ UNTOUCHABLE
I like this tune:

ROBBIE WILLIAMS: FEEL
This is my favourite one by Robbie Williams
I remember when it once came on in one of my all-too brief and rare clean attempts, bringing on a fit of over-emotion especially the lyric:

I got too much life
running through my veins -
going to waste ...

The actress who looks like Darryl Hannah IS Darryl Hannah.

  1. I had a great hunter jumper who once ran on the track. I never saw a steeple chase though. Good for you.

  2. It was certainly interesting for me to read the post. Thanks for it. I like such topics and anything that is connected to this matter. I would like to read more on that blog soon.

  4. Betting the horses - the odds are pretty good you'll win compared with lotteries or slots and such - but there are just so many things that can go wrong even with a strong horse. But for just a pound (don't have the symbol on my keyboard) it's a fun gamble with a fast result.

  5. I disagree with bettting. My Grandad was a huge punter and when he died we found a whole suitcase of winnings under his bed but all his life he 'never lost' yeh right. Still five pounds is five pounds. Just don't blow it on smack! Robbie Williams is coming over here soon and the venue he's playing at is really small . . lost his gloss a bit I think.

  6. SYD: lots of our races are steeplechases here, but they're only held in winter because the ground's soggier ... I think there's another category called "hurdle" where the fences aren't quite as high...

ANON: you're most welcome. Do come back soon ;->...

    J: one day!

JEANNIE: I put on a bet on 4 of 6 out of 49 lottery numbers coming up at 8000 to 1 through a betting shop... (didn't win!!)

BAINO: I certainly don't want to get addicted to that as WELL. That would be horrendous. So how much money was under your Grandad's bed? Must've been a fortune!

Robbie Williams has been away for such a long time plus Take That had a huge comeback without him he seems a bit of a blast from the past now..!
