It looks something like a giant hummingbird. It is probably the most beautiful bird in the UK.

This mini cartoon version is called an African Pygmy Kingfisher ... (why do pygmy everythings seem to come from Africa~??)

ReplyDeleteJ: I don't know that I've ever seen one very close. They used to be in Wales near the local waters, but I don't recall actually glimpsing one. You'd probably have needed binoculars...
