Deutschland über England

YESTERDAY'S FOOTBALL RESULT, for those of you living on Mars was:

Germany 4: England 1

England is not happy.

This morning I was given the look of death for daring to read Stern Magazin in the post office queue!

Not much else to say, not because I'm so incredibly disappointed that England's football team made buffoons of themselves yet again, but because I've been trying to write a highly serious post in German, which is not easy.

Now I'd better go. It's nearly midnight.

Temperatures must surely have hit 32C today; it was sweltering. I slept next to a fan-heater all afternoon (obviously heat was turned off).

I hope you all had a cool day.

  2. I hope 'we' will be allowed to send the Germans home in the final (but for now we've got to concentrate on the quarter finale).

England - Germany made for a worthy match up to the 3-1 though.

    Greets from the Dutch :)

  4. Ach I gather England played like donkeys and deserved to have been dumped out, disallowed goal or no disallowed goal...

  6. I don't care about football at all, so winners or not, that doesn't change my life, lol ! I only feel sorry for my English football fan friends !

  7. It's cooled down a lot here now. Good thing for a bit. It can get hot again in a day or so.

  8. I watched the match in Mulligans, my Irish music bar hangout. There were a few English there. I was cheering for Germany coz I'm not a gigantic fan of England, sorry. And I have to say I liked seeing the Germans play, using their opportunities very well. It's a shame about the English "should be" goal though, what a mistake that was.

I hope you're staying cool too. My new place stays remarkably cool with these temperatures.

  9. I guess it's' not a good time to mention the 'war'. Nor the fact that it's below freezing in Sunny Sydney, I can hardly type!

Akelamalu you're right there. I've had several dirty looks for reading my German book + Stern magazin.
I think the guy who glared at me for the book was Polish though

Jams donkeys? Not just donkeys ~ Trotterdonkeys at that~!!

thanks. But I'm not rooting for them any more. You know I nearly put money on them. I had a hunch we might finally win something... how wrong I was. How wrong wrong wrong.
How on earth a team of professionals can play so well in their individual clubs ~ yet become utterly CRAP when they come together as "England".... I utterly fail to understand :-(

Gattina your empathy is much appreciated

Liz boiling hot, as it turned out

Vincent they must have been very sedate for England fans. Or is it because they were on foreign soil? If you'd done that here you'd not make it out of that bar alive!!

Baino I took your point and changed the title. I'm so embarrassed. I've no idea how much offence I might have caused. I'm so ashamed. I wrote a big apologetic post about it in German.... ach!
