Furry Friday-Saturday: White Tigers

White tigers are ordinary Bengal/Siberian/Sumatran tigers with a genetic mutation that causes a type of semi-albinism where the orange of their coat is bleached out yet the darker stripes remain:

Pure albino tigers do rarely occur:

The tiger-whitening gene is a recessive one, meaning the condition is relatively rare:

White tigers can do anything their orange cousins can do:

Tigers are already the biggest of big cats; white tigers are even bigger. And this tubby swine's enormous!:

  2. When I was in New Zealand last year, I visited a Lion Park which had white tigers. They have the most amazing blue eyes that seem to look right down into your soul.

Beautiful animals, as all cats are.

    Loved that post, Gleds.

  4. Nick: you're welcome!

Pussinboots: Before yesterday I thought a white tiger meant a Siberian tiger. I had no idea you got them in India, too... I have never seen one in real life, but would love to

Bimbimbie: floor rugs??!? what an insult to tiger-kind :-<...

  7. I love how you feature different animal species, Gleddy. We both like animals very much, you and I. Sometimes, when I am really down, the only thing that saves me is the love that I have for my cat and dog. They are worth hanging around for, you know? They make life worthwhile.

    Much love to you,

    SB

  10. Nice pictures mate but just a few quick facts so your page doesn’t mislead people.
Bengal tigers are the only subspecies that carries the recessive white gene.
The largest of the tiger and in fact largest of the big cat species is the Siberian tiger; none of which naturally occurred white.
