African Pygmy Meeces!

FURRY FRIDAY (ON SATURDAY)

AFRICAN PYGMY MICE are the smallest rodents in the world.

At 2" fully-grown long they're the length of a roborovski hamster, yet far slighter in body. Meaning some beetles are actually bigger than these mice!

They're popular with the pet trade because they're very social and just like roborovskis love climbing on top of one another.

They love mousing around:

Shy by nature (just like roborovskis) they can, with patience, become hand-tame:

Like all rodents, the babies are born blind and utterly naked. They resemble "baked beans with paws" ...

Here you can see how tiny and cute an African pygmy mouse mother with babies looks ~ coo!

Here's a beautiful longer filmclip:
(Don't worry ~ it needs no subtitles as there are no words...)

  1. That was such a cute video, I enjoyed watching it. My granddaughter has had mice before and they were fun to watch. Right now she has two ferrets, gecko and a bearded dragon. Thank you for coming by and leaving a comment, have a great weekend.

  2. My goodness they are tiny when you see them swinging on that spray of millet in the video.

Did you hear we know have killer killer rabbits in Queensland ... true if you google ...killer rabbits butcher snakes, you will get to their tale.

And mind how you trip, via feet or nose, beware Gleds *!*

  4. Margaret: a gecko! I remember watching them silently scuttling horizontally on our walls in our room in India. Amazing critters!

Bimbimbie: snake-slaughtering rabbits can only be a good thing... Surely..(??)

  5. Dear Gleds ~~ I am so sorry you had that fall and hope you are quite OK now. I don't like the sound of the new drug. Glad you are getting a few decent meals, but not much else.
    The tiny mice are cute.
