Winter is here!

IT'S RAINING. IT IS MISERABLE. I am miserable.

So I went to Morrisons and bought cheapest brown bread, tomato soup, ground black pepper (to go on the ridiculously over-salty Value Soup), kippers, tea etc etc.

Winter hibernation here we come!

Also my goblin cure should hopefully be with me tomorrow, or the next day at latest. Then I'll have the luxury of home broadband back. Hurrah!

  1. Winter can't be there already! It's not even here...

Tomatoe soup with loads of black pepper in one of my faves.

  2. Yum, that looks really good. Nothing like a bowl of tomato soup.

  3. That sounds like a great hearty meal to me, Gledds. It won't be long here in Ohio and I will be wanting chili and warm soup, too.

Glad you are back! Have a great weekend.

    Love,

  4. If you have any spuds - cut one up and drop it into soups and stews to absorb excess saltiness. An old granny's tip that works.

  5. ELAINE: yeah but it feels like winter. Darkness surrounds us!

SYD: sadly the illustration was not my actual tomato soup. It just came from a stock image search!!

SB: interesting you said that about chilli. I was considering thowing in a handle-end of that instead of black pepper. It goes really well in tomato soup :-)

ANON: Actually Morrisons Value tomato soup is what I wished Heinz and Campbells WOULD be like. It's really tomatoey and not all sugar and salt, like the brand leaders. It certainly doesn't taste like it's only 17p a tin!

I used to put potatoes in my stews, and this one could have done with some. But I love dumplings so very much, I prefer to get my carbs from those instead! Next time I might try adding bulgar wheat or something like that. I reckon that would be really lovely in stew.

Most of my stews are masterpieces, by the way. I don't know what I did wrong last time... Read my most recent post about the stew catastrophe. Dreadful!

  6. I'm miserable with you for my own reasons. Not looking forward to the winter AT ALL!

  7. Why?
I would say leave the country, but you've already tried that. I still think Amsterdam is a way nicer place than most British cities
