I used to take heroin at every opportunity, for over 10 years, now I just take methadone which supposedly "stabilizes" me though I feel more destabilized than ever before despite having been relatively well behaved since late November/early December 2010... and VERY ANGRY about this when I let it get to me so I try not to.
I was told by a mental health nurse that my heroin addiction was "self medication" for a mood disorder that has recently become severe enough to cause psychotic episodes. As well as methadone I take antipsychotics daily. Despite my problems I consider myself a very sane person. My priority is to attain stability. I go to Narcotics Anonymous because I "want what they have" ~ Serenity.
My old blog used to say "candid confessions of a heroin and crack cocaine addict" how come that one comes up when I google "heroin blog" and not this one. THIS IS MY BLOG. I don't flatter myself that every reader knows everything about me and follows closely every single word every day which is why I repeat myself. Most of that is for your benefit not mine.
This is my own private diary, my journal. It is aimed at impressing no-one. It is kept for my own benefit to show where I have been and hopefully to put off somebody somewhere from ever getting into the awful mess I did and still cannot crawl out of. Despite no drugs. I still drink, I'm currently working on reducing my alcohol intake to zero.
If you have something to say you are welcome to comment. Frankness I can handle. Timewasters should try their own suggestions on themselves before wasting time thinking of ME.
PS After years of waxing and waning "mental" symptoms that made me think I had depression and possibly mild bipolar I now have found out I'm schizoaffective. My mood has been constantly "cycling" since December 2010. Mostly towards mania (an excited non-druggy "high"). For me, schizoaffective means bipolar with (sometimes severe) mania and flashes of depression (occasionally severe) with bits of schizophrenia chucked on top. You could see it as bipolar manic-depression with sparkly knobs on ... I'm on antipsychotic pills but currently no mood stabilizer. I quite enjoy being a bit manic it gives the feelings of confidence and excitement people say they use cocaine for. But this is natural and it's free, so I don't see my "illness" as a downer. It does, however, make life exceedingly hard to engage with...
PPS The "elevated mood" is long gone. Now I'm depressed. Forget any ideas of "happiness" I have given up heroin and want OFF methadone as quick as humanly possible. I'm fed up of being a drug addict. Sick to death of it. I wanna be CLEAN!!!
White tigers are ordinary Bengal/Siberian/Sumatran tigers with a genetic mutation that causes a type of semi-albinism where the orange of their coat is bleached out yet the darker stripes remain:
Pure albino tigers do rarely occur:
The tiger-whitening gene is a recessive one, meaning the condition is relatively rare:
White tigers can do anything their orange cousins can do:
Tigers are already the biggest of big cats; white tigers are even bigger. And this tubby swine's enormous!:
OR THE "LAUNDROMAT" as I believe you Americans call it... Finally I washed my stinking clothes today. Because there is no washing machine at my new place, personal or shared, I was reduced to the community laundrette round the corner ~ one of uncertain opening times. (Every time I think of going it is resoundingly SHUT.) So today clotheswashing was first on my to-do list from waking up. Literally everything I have to stand up in is minging so it had to go in as a matter of urgency. Sweatily I turned up, put £2.40 in the machine (not bad, considering that's 2 domestic washloads), added 200mls of Persil highly perfumed silky liquid and smoked fags and flicked through a religious booklet for 35 minutes ~ at which point my garments emerged sparkling white (far cleaner than any rented accommodation washing machine's ever got them). Then I trugged them home to dry out on my Ikea clothes horse ...
PS DOES NOBODY LIKE GREGORIAN CHANTS "VOYAGE VOYAGE"? I bought that disc (the original Desireless version) when it was #5 in the UK charts I'll have you know and I think it's wonderful. (The only bit of French pop I know in fact, apart from that 1960s schlockfest "Je t'aime" with gasping woman and prominent "organ" that makes the listener wanna exclaim "oh get a room!"...
Here's the one German pop song I know:
~~ Nina ~ 99 Red Balloons (neunundneunzig Luftballon) ~ hit #1 in the British chart in 1984. And most remarkably, got to #2 in the USA...
PS and this I found by the wayside... a 1987 Japanese hifi advert starring MADONNA:
BASHFUL still hasn't been buried. If my calculations are correct she lived to either 2 or 3 (time marches on!) I just don't remember... Roborovski hamsters are said to live slightly longer on average than ordinary hamsters, who will do 2 years standard, 3 if they're very lucky 3.5 extraordinarily. In exceptional cases Spherical and her ilk could (so I'm told) live past 4.
By the way I just found out Itchy probably died of cancer. After she was dead I noticed a weird black lump apparently sticking out of her belly. Because it appeared to be furry I assumed it was mould and buried her quickly.
Now from examining Bashful's dead body I can see they actually have very short black underfur and this would have been left after the lump eroded her top coat. No wonder she died so suddenly. There was practically nothing left of her body. She was like a dead hummingbird.
2 other things I noted about Bashful. 1: her teeth were worn extremely short, which is a good sign as captive rodents sometimes have to be clipped, for lack of nibbling opportunity. & 2: her back legs are extremely long ~ nearly one inch long on an animal with a total body length of two inches. No wonder she ran so quickly!
Spherical Carrotnose is alive and well and hoping to live to four!
Desireless: Voyage Voyage
Very rare for a record from across la manche to chart here. But this one, made top 10...
This is 80s French synth pop at its best. I like her voice:
This is what the words mean in English:
Above the ancient volcanoes, Wings gliding through the ruffling flags of the wind, Voyage, voyage, Eternally. From clouds in swamps, From the Spanish wind to the equatorial rain, Voyage, voyage, Fly in the highlands Above the capitals, Look upon the ocean…
Voyage, voyage Farther than night and day, (voyage, voyage) Voyage (voyage) In the incredible feelings of love. Voyage, voyage Upon the holy water of an Indian river, (voyage voyage) Voyage (voyage) And never come back.
On the Ganges or the Amazon, With Blacks, with Sikhs, with Asians Voyage, voyage In the whole kingdom. Upon the dunes of the Sahara, From the Islands of Fiji to Fujiyama, Voyage, voyage, Don’t stop. Above the barbed wire fences, Stricken hearts Look upon the ocean.
Voyage, voyage Farther than night and day, (voyage, voyage) Voyage (voyage) In the incredible feelings of love. Voyage, voyage Upon the holy water of an Indian river, (voyage voyage) Voyage (voyage) And never come back.
Above the capitals, Deathly ideas Look upon the ocean.
Voyage, voyage Farther than night and day, (voyage, voyage) Voyage (voyage) In the incredible feelings of love. Voyage, voyage Upon the holy water of an Indian river, (voyage voyage) Voyage (voyage) And never come back.
Hey I can't believe I found this; here's a Gregorian Chants version of the above complete with Arthurian Knights of the Round Table video... This kinda sums up all I find dodgy and delightful about France, their whimsical emotionality. Don't write this version off until you hear the girl singer come in around 1min19... PS NB the little scuttling mouse on the Round Table
And last this housed-up version. I don't like it as much. The singer's voice lacks the original's "primal" quality...
OR... I COULD HAVE PHRASED THAT: my methadone is going up and I'm giving up gear but things with Maple Syrup, my drugs worker, tend to be confrontational so I'll keep them as they are.
I even have to have an ECG because my daily dose will be so high. Now I've gone over 100mg, so theoretically I have no excuse not to "use on top".
As we all know by now, theoretics mean very little to the incorrigible junkie... so let's see what happens ...
I have to come off gear to get to beloved Berlin. Bear this in mind.
I TOOK MY FRENCH HOLIDAY IDEA and looked a little closer at what I actually wanted out of it. That is, to escape. And where I really want to go isn't France at all but Germany. And you can't go to Germany and not go to Berlin. So that is where I have decided I wanna live. As I said, I did years and years of German so I shouldn't have TOO much trouble filling in forms, reading things, etc. I will just need to get a really good dictionary.
I would love to say, "I'm going there forever. Never again shall I set foot on British soil." (I am very much tired of Britain. This country is sinking into a morass of doublestandards. Modern Britain deals with nothing until crisis is reached (who does that remind me of?) Problems are swept under the carpet: out of sight = out of mind. Civil liberties are being eroded here perhaps quicker than anywhere else in the "civilized world" and that really gets me. The "mother of all parliaments" is utterly corrupt; the home of free speech and all that is losing free speech. Spy cameras are everywhere. The populace are rude and violent. Immigrant communities rule over us and are full of attitude. Foreigners always seem to be first on the housing queue.
Having said all that, Neonaziism is what puts me off Berlin (and Germany in general) the most. But you can't have everything. And I never said I thought the grass over there was any greener. I'm just so sick of Britain. I want to live with a different set of problems.
And I intend to run away from my drug addiction.
I was already aware there are NA meetings in English in Berlin and that little link made going there seem a little less forlorn. I'm not "emigrating", just "migrating" for a while with 2 objects in mind. These being: 1: to get references/experience so I can actually go out and get a JOB ~ wow!! and 2: improve command of German enough to have usable skill rather than semi-useless semi-fluency.
I have never been to Berlin in my life. Neither have I set foot on the soil of any German-speaking country. My mind was oriented towards the region by years of language study at school, so it seems utterly ridiculous not to have gone. Also I long had a fascination with life behind the iron curtain ~ East Berlin of course was the gateway to all this. So when the wall came down without my having ventured behind it I was secretly rather miffed. There is something oddly romantic about former Soviet bloc chic. Giant alienating concrete architecture. Cold wind from the East ...
What really sealed all this was when my Mum said at the weekend: "well if you want to go voluntary work over there I'll help you out". And I thought: Yippee! Then I'm going!!
"BIRD HOUSE" COMMERCIAL They're selling orange squash, not that I think anybody would remember it from this... but the advert is amazing. The bird is a canary in natural coloration... I think this is classic ...
Oh and while we're at it, here's a McDonald's ad from Thailand Note how the English word "spicy" comes through loud and clear:
OK I promise: last one I love this piri-piri Thai lady:
MY MUM said she was buying me a birthday present. I am now 38 years old. This is far too old to be a junkie. But anyway we went through Tesco's electrical department and picked out a cheapie CD player plus (what I really wanted) a digital radio.
The FM dial in London is so jam-packed with pirate stations playing outdated early 90s drum-&-bass I find it literally impossible to get a signal on the speech stations I actually like.
Nobody uses satellite radio in this country. In fact I have never seen (or even heard of) a set on sale, though I've heard a satellite called Hotbird does broadcast to Europe. What I got was DAB, which offers crystal-clear reception subscription free from local broadcasters on about 50 channels ~ though there's apparently space for loads more. Unlike ordinary FM radio, DAB broadcasts come via a "multiplex" where the signal on one frequency, eg 220 mhz is divided into 8 or more stations, making pirate DAB broadcasting a tad too technically complexicated for the average drum-&-bass towerblock hoodlum.
The radio pirates install their FM transmitters at the top of residential towerblocks and broadcast practically anywhere they please on the FM dial. Sometimes you can just about get talk radio but with a ceaseless pulse of dfff-dfff-dffffff sub-bass. Other times the DJ's voice comes shamelessly through on top, interjecting phases like "rewind selecta" and "big up da blah-de-blah-blimblom" (their mates). There's supposed to be a taskforce tackling these illegal broadcasters, who use random flats in the area (with another, low-power frequency as link) but they never seem to go away for more than a day or two. You can usually tell which is and isn't strictly "legit" because pirate stations broadcast in mono ~ so they don't light up the red stereo light. I'm all for freestyling on the radio waves don't get me wrong. I just find it annoying when they're decimating the BBC. Personally I think the legal broadcasters should all switch to digital and leave FM for anybody who wants a go. But apparently there's a problem because car manufacturers usually install AM/FM-only radios in keeping with pan-European demand and a lot of digital-only broadcasters claim to lose money. The latest "multiplex" got no bidders and so the future of DAB in the UK is uncertain.
Meanwhile I'm more than happy with what's there!
It's Bashful's funeral today or tomorrow. Oh, and I'm moving to Berlin. More about that tomorrow ...
VIDEO
It was the Eurovision song contest on Saturday night. Widely derided (here); taken incredibly seriously (in the East) it attracts transEuropean viewing figures of over 100,000,000.
I must have been out of my head because unlike former years (when I avoid it like bubonic plague) I thought to myself "this might be good!"~??!? and settled down with a nice cup of tea. Thankfully I conked out for the first half of the "ceremony" but this is what I remember:
PS If you come from lands far overseas and believe all European pop music is a tacky load of tat, see this before you cement your opinion (it will only strengthen it!!)
NORWAY (Best tune) I was going to put this down as the best entry musically anyhow. And they happened to WIN also:
UKRAINE (Best visuals) The singer mortgaged her flat to pay for this elaborate set. I hope she gets her money back:
UK Musicals composer Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote the tune. Whoever wrote the lyrics ("it's my time, it's my time" repeated over and over) deserves to be shot:
("Royaume Uni" came 5th out of 25, with 42 countries voting...)
BASHFUL TROTTERDONKEY ROBOROVSKI IS DEAD! The virus finally got her. She died on Friday but I wasn't around to post it. Spherical alerted me to the strangeness by determinedly moving nest from under the cod-in-parsley-sauce box under their wheel to under the chewed out chocolate fingers box. It is quite odd to see such a tiny creature behaving so purposefully. Grabbing mouthfuls of self-chewed bedding material and scampering to a new nest that's getting more and more luxuriously padded by the minute. Something suspiciously two-toned harvesty-coloured and white caught my eye and then I realized it was Bashful looking very dead and very bashed up. Imagine a dead cat that's been through a washing machine spin cycle and you're on the right track. I was wondering what on earth had prompted her into that corner when Spherical very officiously grabbed her dead housemate by the scruff and dragged her bodily halfway across the tank and into the her new bedding, where she took to preening her fur (not too successfully it has to be said as poor dead Bashful still looks like she's been dragged through several hedges backwards).
I was wondering whether this is some sort of strange roborovski death ritual, keeping the late cagemate in bed. So I did an experiment and moved Bashful back to where I'd found her only for Spherical to grab her once again and determinedly drag her back ~ within a few minutes.
Last night, Spherical was moving nest yet again. Sure enough poor Bashful had vanished from under the chocolate fingers box, round several very inconvenient (by roborovski standards) cage obstacles and into the cod in parsley sauce box. I took Bashful out yet again and hid her in the furthest corner. This just so happened to be at the far entrance to a very long and narrow tube that originally held a roll of clingwrap. Imagine my shock to witness Spherical grabbing poor Bashful by the back leg and hauling her right through this long, thin tube right back to the new nest again!
I didn't have the heart to remove the body when Spherical seems to enjoy "looking after it" so. I was thinking maybe in the wild, because they do of course live in burrows, they do make a special nest for dead housemates and let them rot into the ground right there.
Tomorrow I'm having the official funeral, next to Itchy in Mother Hubbard's strawberry patch. My Mum says Spherical, who came out on cue and started rambling ostentatiously on her wheel, is very pretty. She even let me stroke her without feigning horrific shock, pinging away and hiding under the cardboard sill of a box from where, when she's so inclined, she would glare at me with the most baleful black beady eyes I've ever seen.
One left! Poor Spherical ~ all on her own. I hope yous all had a good weekend... Evening all!!
Yes! You sceptics from foreign shores; the name is for real!
Blue tits are Britain's prettiest common garden birds. Put out a feeder and more of these show up than practically anything else.
They are closely related to the even more embarrassingly named great tit. These are distinguished by more black-and-white-y coloration and a complete chest stripe:
The perky little tits are Britain's agilest garden birds:
Boy blue tits can get rather aggressive:
They'll even confront their own reflection:
Lady blue tits are very pretty birds:
Even in the wild, they have been known to become quite tame:
When milk was delivered door-to-door (many years ago, in my childhood!) these were the little swines who'd peck away at the silver tops. Or worse:
And like many garden birds, they've been known to raise new generations in bizarre places:
IN MY USUAL DEPRESSION LAST NIGHT I was casting around for ideas when suddenly one struck me that has struck me again and again: why don't I go en vacances? Usually I assume that a methadone script is stopping me ~ until I remember how very many folks I know who have indeed gone abroad with the methadone in tablet form (no way would I even consider exporting litre on litre of swilling green 1mg/1ml liquid...) What some of these people don't want to recognize is that the Home Office Letter they take for customs purposes permits only the export of methadone from the UK. Of course it is up to individual foreign countries to decide whether they will allow it in. Bue la belle france is our nearest neighbour in the ever-"freundlich" Europäische Union (not that I'm suggesting Germany's in charge). So that shouldn't be un problème ...
When he was younger, my Dad did a tour of the outlying isles of Scotland and indeed I tell myself I would like to see the more outstanding points of my own country. Then I think to la belle france and ~ hey ~ actually I'd far rather go there (and hop across the border to Germany, come to think about it.) I spent seven years torturously studying French under the wholly timewasteful British system of language education at school and five doing German. And doesn't it say everything that I actually speak German better than French? To be quite frank anyone with half a brain could attain the fluency I did in 3 or 4 years of concerted effort. I sacrificed all kinds of easier studies ~ I even had to give up chemistry to do this. Languages are hardly regarded as sacrosanct in the UK. Then everyone assumes I must be somehow genius-clever just because I attained what is really a basic skill for any citizen of the world. I think if I'd got to this age as a monoglot I really would have killed myself ~ from the shame of it, if nothing else. The British are no "worse" at learning languages than anyone else; it's just that they're taught to an execrably lower standard here than almost anywhere else on the entire planet (and that must surely be saying something...); plus when you go abroad you get less chance to practise, being surrounded by locals who want to practise their English on you!
I suppose this could have been a long entry on the glories of la république. My time in France has been limited to about three weeks or so I spent with a charity called Jeunesse et Reconstruction in the last summer of my teens when I joined a pan-European gang of youngsters on a river-pruning expedition between Clermont-Ferrand and Bourges. If you stuck a pin in the middle of the French hexagone; that's just about where we were... You only had to hack at the banks for about three hours a day then you got the rest of the time off to explore la campagne. To this day I know the names of basic farming and tree-surgical implements better in French than English. I also learned important phrases like bourdon (bumblebee) and nid des guêpes (wasps' nest!) Those are imprinted on my mind. I also learned that a lot of soft French cheese is like white horse manure but the local plonk is exceptionally cheap. The local mayor gave us lots of that as we were the cheapest labour around... Plus I learned to swear fluently and say a collection of obscene phrases in Polish. And I met some dodgy Lithuanian gypsies. The youngest one "looked like Madonna" (bear in mind this was 1990 or 91 when "Vogue" had just come out) and kept fluttering her eyes at me. Her brothers caught the most gigantic fish with their bare hands in a local stream. The local hôpital psychiatrique was just round the corner and we were haunted by a transvestit drest as a Red Indian sqwaw girl. And somebody caught diarrhoea in the communal toilets leaving an Everestine pile of steaming ordures like a molten Mr Whippy caramel king-cone on the famous French squat-down loos ...
I also became familiar enough with the grande métropole that when I came to London I spent a while wondering where to find that island in the middle with a huge cathedral opposite the courts of justice. Not realizing, of course, that that would be la cathédrale de Notre-Dame opposite le Palais de Justice ...
In general I would say that Paris is more beautiful than London (though in a preplanned and perhaps stuffily regimented way; and the statlier parts of London somehow outdo Paris in élégance ...), in my day London definitely had the edge over Paris in nightlife and clubbing though Paris would probably appeal more to slightly older people who were more into eating out and drinking. London and Paris seemed to be pretty much equal when it came to shopping. Being so near of course I had to see Galleries Lafayette, the French Harrods with its giant atrium above the perfume hall. Unlike Harrods this is one store in two buildings connected by a high-up open-air walkway. And I swear that as I crossed the bridge I passed the image of French chic: yes a woman with black Chanel bob, in furs, reeking of French perfume clutching a small dog ...
O! Those were the days! I'll keep you informed if I ever do go. (I'll probably be 57 by then...)
BASHFUL ROBOROVSKI is still alive and looking like a Porkshire Terrier. She's actually a bit better-seeming than she appeared 2 days ago, when she looked to be going the same way as Itchy... Just like Itchy used to do, she's looking a bit bashed up, like a Porky Terrier illustrated. Imagine having one of those tiny enough to trot around the palm of your hand??!? That's why I find hammies so cute. They're like kittens or puppydogs, only they never grow big and horrible and growly. Having said that, when she was on form, Bashful (named after her behaviour when I very first got her) used to lean on a little cardboard box with one hand, like a gossipping fishwife at a garden wall. Then, like a humungous aggressive dog leering over a garden gate she would snap at my fingers when I dared "introduce" them anywhere nearby. For this reason she garnered the additional Monika "Sergeant Bashful".
Roborovski Spinning Syndrome evidently has no cure, though it can come on in episodes and is not (so I read) necessarily a deteriorating condition... I think Itchy must have got it (+ something else) really bad for she looked far far more emaciated. By the end she weighed next to nothing, like a little hummingbird ...
I must go now as I'm due up the road. I'm still travelling down every day to the same intenet caff, the same chemist. Maple Syrup my drugs worker was bang-on correct when she pointed out to the nutnut dr cum headshrinker that I "do not like change" (you can say that again!).
I'm still waiting for the headshrinking diagnostic ceremony. No appointment has yet been made ...
I THINK BASHFUL ROBOROVSKI IS DYING. She is certainly ill. Seems to have lost her sense of balance and spins round and round. This is a genetic fault and nothing can be done about it. There she was, huddled inside a cardboard box last night all sicksome. I fed her sweetcorn and Bill Oddie's Breakfast Birdseed. Her backbone is sticking out of her fur like a metal arch. Her eyes have been getting progressively blearier for days and days. Spherical on the other hand looks bright as anything.
Imagine my surprise this morning to see her drinking of her own accord of the waterbottle. Maybe miracles do happen, even for MC Trotter Donkey..? It was weird to see her behaving normally again. Hopefully this means an end to it. I think the same illness killed Itchy ...
Spherical glares at me with suspicion and retreats into a Channel Tunnel size cardboard tube I gave them. There her Carrot Nose sticks out quivering with contention. She seems to consider me some kind of evil sorcerer. Maybe it's because my eyes lit up luminous green when I'm angry ..? Who Nose..??!?
Maple Syrup, my Drug Worker, phoned me today asking what's wrong. She actually asked how I was!! I do think Maple Syrup is very clever by taking a different tack from all my other workers. Some of it has worked.
In psychology one thing I do recall: you had what they named Intrinsic and Extrinsic Motivation. Extrinsic motivation is doing something because somebody is manipulating you or threatening you. Intrinsic motivation does things because it WANTS to. I only work well intrinsically. Maybe what got missed yesterday is that I DO want to do these groups; but do NOT want to do them because I'm threatened or cajoled or bullied. I try not to be the type of person who cuts off his nose to spite his face, but dealing with Maple Syrup this becomes an ever-so-temptational course of action...
I told Maple Syrup I'm all up for these alternative therapies but they're being scheduled too fast. One thing at a time.
I AM FED UP of being emotionally blackmailed and pushed into drugs group meetings I do not want to go to but attend mostly so it looks good on my record. The reasoning is the same as drug-dealers use: well what else would you be doing? A real disrespect for my own time. Today, my worker rang up pretending to be someone else. I know it was her as she ended with "don't let me down" ~ typical of the coercive language my worker uses when it was I who was supposed to be going for a shiatsu/massage thing, I who'd reap the supposed benefits, I who would only let myself down by nonattending. The appointment (already a missed appointment, which is why I had barely an hour's notice) will go free to a staff member if no "client" is there to pick it up. So it wasn't being wasted if I also failed to show.
How come I have let myself get pushed into this? Maple Syrup (my druggie worker) acts like it's a crime when I don't go (and I haven't been so far). Other times I simply forgot, or couldn't get there on time. She has no respect for the fact that I'm doing other things today, tomorrow, every day. And I'm not telling her what. I don't have to justify myself. So anyway I pushed myself into this appointment thinking it was shiatsu. I really didn't want to go. Turned out it was some kind of massage. The last thing I wanted was somebody grabbing at me. They all think push push push your boundaries down, face fears; you always feel better. I have pushed pushed pushed before; against fear, despair, fatigue. And do you know what happened? I drove myself into a breakdown. I pushed so hard; and I felt so increasingly ill. Something had to give ~ and eventually it did. So I'm not doing that again, especially when it's mindgames: her pretending to be someone else. A big drawback to NA is the tradition of hugging thy neighbour at the end. Sometimes I've found this so difficult I've just left early to avoid it... It was the same today: I did not want anybody near me. I turned up late in a bad mood. Went very reluctantly into the treatment room, then said "sorry I cannot do this" and ran out as fast as I could.
IF I were going to get bigger furry pets, I would go for chinchillas:
Their wild habitat is high in the Andes, where they ping about the rocks:
They look like rabbits from Mars:
Chinchilla fur is so dense not a single parasite can live among it. They must take weekly dust baths in special (expensive) volcanic sand. They seem to really like doing this:
ALL I WAS THINKING about this morning was what a strong, fixating hold this heroin drug has over me. I can't think of anything else that comes close.
When I used to smoke crack I always saw it as rubbish and couldn't care whether it was good or bad. It took the dealers a while to pick up that I was extremely discriminating about the one drug (heroin) and could barely care less about the other.
Basically I used crack to jazz up the heroin hit. This is a so-called snowball or speedball. The combination is extremely addictive. When I tried to stop it, heroin alone seemed extremely boring, like a dry old bit of stale bread without butter. Or tea without sugar.
The leaflet I read the other day said that heroin doubles the amount of dopamine in the brain; crack quadrouples it; but heroin and crack together makes a x10 high. THAT explains why it was so hard to give up ~ even though I was still using heroin.
A stupid girl from South London is awaiting trial in a Lao prison for attempting to smuggle a 700g packet into Thailand (and presumably on to the West). If found guilty she faces the firing squad. Good for her! Anything's gotta be better than doing life in a South-East Asian prison...
PS: there are no old junkies? Not at all true. I know loads. Though not a single one would inject in the crook of the arm: that vein is always first to go. These characters have legs like porridge from repeated skinpopping abscesses...
OK NOW I'm still not entirely finished moving out of my old place. Scraps of this and that lie all over the kitchen floor. The painter's probably coming in there today. Then I get a call from my Worker at the druggie place "the council say you've not been paying the weekly service charge where you live". That's because the council still think I live 2 houses away and have yet to give me any paperwork so I CAN pay even the last one (but I can't). On their computer I do not exist (except, oddly, for council tax purposes.) So I vented my fury at the poor druggie worker who said she'll ring back in the afternoon.
No I don't know why I took to jacking up drugs in a phone box. Maybe a childish part of me thought it might remind me of certain "old days" (when I was "young") and constantly "using" in bushes, public toilets (I once overdosed, woke up with my knuckles in pools of piss and the attendant yelling "we close now! Closing!!") One time me and a "mate" even found ourselves using on the far top landing of a block of flats with a screaming argument going on inside. Any moment the door could have flown open and fury been unleashed and this particular person seemed to take an age to complete the process, what with the fresh air blowing round the lighter flame and all... Then the drugs were in us and suddenly we couldn't care who might have seen. This is the same person I found myself standing a few nervous paces away from as he banged up by some rubbish bins under another flat. The poor woman who discovered him ~ right in the classic pose, needle poised at arm, went white in the face and, flustered started apologizing herself for being there and he said "that's all right" as if "well I'll let you off this once"...
No other news I have to fly...
PS I'm not sure quite where that big building is, could be New Mexico as far as I'm concerned, but it does look like where my local council's suing department might be housed...
HOW VULGAR! But that's what I did. It took me TWO HOURS to get from suburbia to this certain dealer's "urbia". TWO HOURS of faffing around for a post office open enough to get MY OWN MONEY OUT. Faffing for the right bus and a route where someone had not been murdered leading to yards and yards of it cordoned off (like yesterday). Then finally about twenty minutes into my pacing about in an "obviously not waiting for the bus" way at this innercity stop da man turns up. He didn't seem to notice I palmed him off with short money. Then I was so agitated at missing the first bus home and then useless ones to places like John O'Groats and other areas I do not live I thought "oh bugger it", went into the public urinal-cum-phone box (without Big Ben views), poured out a bit of my cyder-and-Lucozade drink and made that into a yummy hit of gear that I jammed into my leg whilst having an imaginary conversation. I don't think anybody noticed and I don't know whether it was unfamiliar surroundings or what, but the drugs were rather good ...
Anyway I'm back by my old house and procrastinating packing the very last. This is because I'm weary and weighed down with cooked chicken thighs and mushrooms and spring onions. My Mumzy bought me intellectual noodle nests (highly intellectual: bilingual instructions in Sumerian and Akkadian with Pi to 10,000 places...) and easy Chinese meals are calling.
My hamsters have got over the horror of being placed in the middle of a table for all to see, if only there were a collection of people to peer in and view them. Spherical had taken to glaring at me balefully then vanishing down a Trotters' Tube, her giant furry backside rumbling behind her ...
I AM ALL MOVED IN. Apart from bucket, mop and sundry papers strewn all over the last place's floor, all has come with me. I have yet to spot a single cockroach in my new house.
My Mum and Brian turned up yesterday morning to what resembled a bomb explosion in an Oxfam shop. Stuff was everywhere, and where I'd tried to pile it up it looked worse than ever. How on earth this would fit in the new house I dared not imagine. Where on earth it had come from I could not compute. The kitchen cupboards were bare. About five boxes full of stuff just from those. Bathroom emptied out. A whole pharmacy of drug paraphernalia chucked in the front bin.
It took us three carloads to do it, Ikea tables, clothes racks and all. My patience was wearing thin at the end as I was over-tired. I had been feeling semi-ill all weekend. On Friday night I honestly felt it would never get done, as I lay in bed, nauseated, hoping not to vomit (which I did not) and staring out forlornly at my conglomerated stuff.
The new place is luxuriously cold, with no double glazing. Radiators firmly off and a natural climate rather than the double-glazing-intensified sweaty midsummer furnace two of my last three places have turned out to be ...
I fell into deepest slumber at eleven o'clock on my new unmade bed. My Mum says it's a kingsize mattress. She had to rush out to buy new undersheets from BHS because the old ones were far too tiny. I've not fitted the replacements. I've done nothing except survey how clean, tidy and neat my new place looks.
Trotters are pride of place on a low table next to the television. Every now and then a pink nose appears from a tube end, followed by a furry face. Then if you're lucky you might get Spherical scurrying scurrulously from tube to gnawed-out Atora-box outhouse. The neighbours probably already think I'm mad for cooing in a silly voice: "Hello little Trotter! Hello! Have you got perky little ones!?" I'm talking about her ears. Only afterwards did I realize this might be open to interpretation.
Talking about perky little ones, I went for a midnight walk and apart from the local off-licence-cum-vegetable shops (bottle shops) the only place left open appeared to be a 24-hour knocking shop. It was called a "sports club and sauna" but looked decidedly seedy to me...
So welcome to Avenue Life... I'm now at the furthest extreme of my old stomping ground, not quite on alien territory. My old friend Valium Marilyn, who looks like Marilyn Monroe with a 30-year gear habit lives just a couple of streets away and two of my old dealers used to do business round here: one from the road off the one end of my street, one from an alleyway at the other! So it's old ground really. Those dealers have long gone. One, who I liked, got flushed down the toilet thanks to his own habit on crack. The other is doing massively long prison time by all accounts after police caught him well and truly, digging up a massive money and drugs stash in his Mum's back garden.
As for me I'm reading John Mortimer's Rumpole of the Bailey with the radio on (as the TV aerial appears defunct), procrastinating unpacking and considering starting up a mini herb garden in my bedroom bay window, that could double as a pretentious bougeois reading seat ...
It's Mayday bank holiday (that is, a public holiday). So life's as busy as ever. The sun is shining, cars are out. I'd better ping off before this internet caff terminates me. Have a nice day, y'all ..!
PS I'm not one for TV theme tunes of the 1980s obsessions, but I did wake up with this, the music from Juliet Bravo going around and around in my head. As TV themes go I think it's quite OK (do you?) It reminds me of having Findus piri piri beef crispy pancakes with Birdseye potato waffles and Heinz baked beans for tea "of" an evening after coming home from school ...
PS Juliet Bravo ran on the BBC till 1985. How old does that make me feel..??!?
In the news: British woman Samantha Orobator faces firing squad for allegedly trying to smuggle heroin out of Laos. The South Londoner, who was allegedly hoping to study medicine, was caught with a 680g package of heroin "in her suitcase" at Wattay airport in the Lao capital.
Most mysteriously of all, however, she is now 5 months pregnant, having been in an all-women's prison for NINE months..!
YESTERDAY MORNING I got an unexpected postal missive marked URGENT in enormous red writing. "Ring us [the property agents] immediately." So I did. And got through to a cheery young girl who said "oh we're moving you to another address". "But I can't do this till after the weekend, and where is it?" I replied. "Oh if you can be out by the beginning of next week that would be lovely." (Lovely my ****.) "No, I mean I have to ring my family and I don't know what they're doing. So I might not be able to do anything till after this weekend," which is May Day public holiday weekend in this country, just for added inconvenience. And they would not tell me where it was until I came in. "I'll come in this afternoon," I assured them. Then I took three hits of heroin in a row and knocked myself out. I was in a very bad mood and utterly convinced they were moving me from my laminated floored paradise into a dirgy garret hellhole, like certain past accommodation in passed years in... Having sulked all night I reluctantly turned up at the landlord's this morning expecting the worse. Signed papers and demanded this time a copy so I can at least inform the Council properly (no-one told me last time I was meant to piff-paff-puff around with housing benefit forms/etc. I only found out about the last set of computational problems at the council when I was informed 1: I did not exist on the computer and 2: I was being sued by the council tax into the bargain. "But how did you know I was living there if I don't exist on the computer?" I asked, wide-eyed and stupidly. "Oh that's because your landlord told us you were living there," the Desk Operative replied. Lovely ...
To cut a long story short all my sulking was wasted energy. Far from being a rat-ridden fleapit, the new place is just as nice as where I am now. In fact this time I actually get a separate bedroom with actual door and double bed! Plus a living room with two blue armchairs! Plus fully working cooker (I checked) with oven that I failed to check (knowing me I'd forget to turn it off ~ this in highest of Costa del Cockney summertime weather. London doesn't half get sweltering on occasion and it's like that now. All blue skies and Outstanding Council Tax bills...
Mumzy says she will move me in on Sunday. Thanks Mum!
Mother Hubbard is in hospital with pancreas-itis. She says they promised her a medical procedure "in near-unconsciousness". Instead they passed a python-size slither-implement down her throat with bitey ends. Gave her NO analgesia but her ordinary dose of methadone (all methadone does is keep you sane, there's no drowsiness, certainly no high). As the snake's mouth started biting through stomach to pancreas she nearly hit the ceiling, only to be "assaulted" (held down). "I've had a lot of experiences in my life and I'll never, ever forget this one," she seethed. I tried not to rub it in but I was angry just listening. Anaesthetists specialize in the effects of various knock-out drops on individuals. Absolutely basic to their study is that opiates build tolerance in habituated "patients". In certain individuals with 20 year ++ habits, that tolerance can be sky high ...
Well I won't go on. I have to go to Iceland to obtain strawberry flavour ice cream cones, 6 for £1, if they've not sold out ...
My new house smells of my own piri piri hotpot cooking, by the way...
I'm not sure I'll be able to reply to messages till after the long weekend, but will try my best...
SCROLL DOWN TO THE BOWL OF STEW FOR PIRI PIRIS. DRUGS BIT COMES FIRST: SO IT IS quarter to eight pm on Sunday. NOBODY has any heroin. Those that do cannot get it together to sort out cars. I got so wound up I bashed away at every phone number I had (bar one or two). I have quite a lot of numbers representing 10 different businesses. And not one of these people can get it together to either be somewhere when I come or deliver!
The most businesslike tale of drug dealing I ever heard comes allegedly from New York City. Of course New York has been a homeland of hard drugs longer than practically anywhere else in the Western World. Heroin didn't come to London till the 1960s ~ up till then Paris was the major hub of European narcotics distribution ~ not Amsterdam, as today.
Anyway this was the story. You went up to a certain apartment building where you encountered an empty bucket dangling by a long long string. Into this bucket you put your money and yanked it (I expect ~ so the folks on the other end knew they had a customer) then up up up the bucket would go, presently to come down again bearing the exact quantity of heroin paid for.
I can just imagine what the neighbours might have said "Did you see that bucket going up every day full of money?"
"No! But did you see that one going down full of drugs?"
IT'S MONDAY AFTERNOON and by now I'm feeling better. I didn't even put down yesterdays morosity to Unsacred Sundays ...
Today I got paid and as well before visiting my dealer I went to the butchers and Morrisons (formerly Safeways) the supermarket. I had assumed the halal one on the corner would be cheapest for diced meat. Wrong! Today I got beef cubes, £3 worth at £2.10 a LB. With it I made a very pleasant peas pobble piri piri stew with dumplings; (serves 2) here's how:
There are three ways of making a stew in my opinion. Three textures. When I told a certain friend I was "learning to make stew" I got back the reply: "Anyone can do that," and maybe they can, but mine are a million miles from dead bits of lamb floating in leek-and-potato gruel. I learned to cook vegetarian before I ever handled meat, so mine's properly spiced. I don't bother adding potatoes as I far prefer bready-carby dumplings. Yumm...
Texture is really important in cookery. Industrial manufacturers of prepackaged food call it "mouth feel". In a stew with baby potatoes a nice point of contrast can be established by the addition of tinned water chestnuts and halved button mushrooms along with tiny dumplings. All four have a similar white appearance but ever so different "mouth feel" ...
A standard beef or lamb stew would be all cubed, ideally with the meat cubes slightly larger and more prominent than the veg. Or you can do one with meat cubes contrasting against a background mush. This is really nice if you want lots of dumplings The third way if peas-n-pulse pobble-bobble. A really nice consistency as below:
BEEF & PEAS POBBLE PIRI PIRI HOTPOT Serves 2-3
Fry: ~300g cubed beef. I cut the cubes myself into 8 or 10 bits the size of board games dice ~1 large onion, diced ~1 tsp garlic paste ~5 or 6 closed cap mushrooms cut into 6es
I fried in a wok; transferred to med/large saucepan for part 2:
After about ten minutes boil by adding ~1/2 can chopped tomatoes ~about 1/6th of a 500g jar Ragu original. I always used to assume the ultra-tomatoey flavour of Ragu and the like came from dodgy industrial process, until I realized each jar contains something like "150g tomatoes per 100g" ie to make yourself you'd need to bake several cans of chopped tomatoes in an open casserole dish for several hours. And you still wouldn't save any money at min. 35p a tin tomatoes and £1 a jar Ragu so I buy it predone. But if you're against this I understand your opposition. It makes a far nicer tomato additive though than plain old tomato paste. Now add: ~half a tin Dunns River mixed beans/peas: red kidney, black eye, gungo ~1-1.5 tsp mixed MILD curry powders, jerk and cajun seasonings: turmeric, mustard, fenugreek, chili, cumin, cayenne, ginger, allspice, cardamom, pimento, cinnamon, star anise, nutmeg, cloves, oregano, sage, thyme, marjoram, bay... ~2-3 tsp paprika ~1 tsp mixed herbs: parsley, sage, marjoram, thyme, oregano, basil ~0.5 tsp extra thyme ~0.5 tsp honey mustard ~1 tsp tomato ketchup
~1 tiny carrot, diced and fiercely boiled with water added in last hour (coz I 4got to put it in far earlier!)
Cook in a covered pan, stirring occasionally. Add fresh boiling water as/when necessary. Verge towards too much water rather than not enough. Dumplings need it. Uncover pan and boil off any excess after dumplings done.
Dumplings: 2 parts selfraising flour to 1 part vegetable suet. Add pepper to taste. Ensure a good 2 inches hubblebubbling water clear for dumplings to form in lovely baroque bready crags
In last 15 minutes add 2 handsful or about 2/3 coffee mug full of frozen peas and ensure they boil up nicely. The peas add a lovely flavour.
The extra flour from the dumplings usually thickens what surplus juice remains, but if your stew's still too watery, boil off any excess by removing the lid. Stir well to prevent subterranean sticking...
PS: My robos really like frozen veg straight from the freezer. Of my Hamsta MCs, Trotter Donkey seized on a frozen pea just now and scuttled off gleefully like an ecstatic furry hippo ...
FILM: Cockatiel Jailbreak ~ The Squarkshank Redemption I got this from the blog Cute Overload that I follow...
FINALLY I FOUND THE KEY to turn my own blazing radiators off. My home is fairly clean, though scattered with stray dumpling flour. The schizophrenic next door claims the landlord was seeking me on Friday. Why can't these people leave notes like ordinary human beings. The register I signed days ago is still on the wall full of my initials.
I don't know what I am supposed to write? What can I say. I only feel like death and death warmed up.
The more I think about where I've been and where I've come from the more angry I get. Living in a yard deep of rubbish obsessively collected. Sleeping on the floor, living like a wild animal, paranoid, convinced I was being spied on by miniature alien-cams. Hearing voices all the time. And all through this my idiot dolts of drugs workers took my dire physical state (I was literally falling apart on my feet) as a kind of normality. My mental state was bearly even glimpsed. When the shrink said I had been "paranoid and psychotic" I was still far too paranoid to pass on this info to somebody else. I lost out on over a year's state benefits I'm still entitled to due to "feelings of unworthiness".
Short of a miracle I will never be better than I am now. Which is not that good. Now I have to go it's a blue and white sunny day and it's making me sick.
I WANT OFF METHADONE AS QUICK AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE!

"Wir, Kinder vom Bahnhoff Zoo" by "Christiane F", memoir of a teenage heroin addict and prostitute, was a massive bestseller in Europe and is now a set text in German schools.
Bahnhoff Zoo was, until recently, Berlin's central railway station. A kind of equivalent (in more ways than one) to London's King's Cross...
Of course my local library doesn't have it. So I'm going to have to order it through a bookshop and plough through the text in German. I asked my druggieworker Maple Syrup, who is Italiana how she learned English and she said reading books is the best way.CHRISTIANE F:

Drugs Videos
Most of these come from my Random blog, which is an electronic scrapbook of stuff I thought I might like to view at some time or other. For those who want to view stuff on drugs I've collected the very best links here. Unless otherwise stated these are full-length features, usually an hour or more.
If you have a slow connexion and are unused to viewing multiscreen films on Youtube here's what to do: click the first one and play on mute, stopping and starting as it does. Then, when it's done, click on Repeat Play and you get the full entertainment without interruption. While you watch screen one, do the same to screens 2, 3 and so on. So as each bit finishes, the next part's ready and waiting.
Khun Sa, whose name meant Prince Prosperous, had been, before his death in the mid 2000s, the world's biggest dealer in China White Heroin: "Lord of the Golden Triangle"
In-depth portrait of the Afghan heroin trade at its very height. Includes heroin-lab bust. "Afghanistan's Fateful Harvest"
Classic miniseries whose title became a catchphrase for the misery of life in East Asian prison. Nicole Kidman plays a privileged middle-class girl set up to mule heroin through Thai customs with the inevitable consequences. This is so long it had to be posted in two parts. "Bangkok Hilton 1" (first 2 hours or so); "Bangkok Hilton 2" (last couple of hours).
Short film: from tapwater-clear H4 in the USA to murky black Afghan brown in Norway: "Heroin Addicts Speak"
Before his untimely death this guy kept a video diary. Here's the hour-long highlights as broadcast on BBC TV: "Ben: Diary of a Heroin Addict". Thanks to Noah for the original link.
Some of the most entertaining scenes from Britain's top soap (as much for the poor research as anything else). Not even Phil Mitchell would go from nought to multi-hundred pound binges this fast: "Phil Mitchell on Crack" (just over 5 minutes).
Scientist lady shows us how to cook up gear: "How Much Citric?" Lucky cow: her brown is 70% purity! Oddly we never see her actually do her hit... maybe she got camera shy...
And lastly:
German documentary following a life from teenage addiction to untimely death before the age of 30. The decline in this girl's appearance is truly shocking. "Süchtig: Protokoll einer Hilflosigkeit". Sorry no subtitles; this is here for anyone learning German who's after practice material a little more gripping than Lindenstraße!
Nosey Quiz! Have you ever heard voices when you weren't high on drugs?
Here's the 4-methylmethcathinone molecule. This is the "cocaine plus ecstasy"-style "legal high" I took that time and didn't even know what it was... After a brief but intense craze for meow, it was eventually banned in the UK in April 2010
If you wanna see what manic looks like, watch this. If this is the mood she stayed in all day she'd be moderately manic (severely manic is literally all over the place verging into complete incoherence)... I have been known to yell the same stuff over and over, which is why I like this:
Ferry Corsten remix. William Orbit performance. Samuel Barber's Adagio
DJ Seduction: Starlight August 1992
I love this style of music and WHY do kidz today call it OLD SCHOOL? MAKE ME FEEL ANCIENT WHY DONCHA! I really like that ting-ting-tong tune that comes into it about 3 mins in "release the spirit" yeah....! Respect goin' out LizzyD Yeah ;-)
Angelina Joelie: Crazy Chic
Girl Interrupted: best scenes
Mozart's Requiem Tranced Up
I like danced-up tunes now that I'm "OLD". Like this one... The actual name of the tune is "lacrimosa" which means sad. Which is weird it actually sounds uplifting. but there ya go:~~~~~~~~

Urban Shakedown: Some Justice
One of my all time favourite "hardcore" rave tunes. The "woman" singing "we live as one family" is actually a man speeded up. The primal line "Now eeeee-yeah-oh-eeeee-yeah we live as one family," sounded to me like the sun rising at psychedelic dawn. For a long time there was forever a part of me left from this 1991-1992 era, still out there, tripping in a certain corn-on-the-cob field at dawn...
Praga Khan: Injected with a Poison
Sums up what my attitude used to be and is once again to gear. That because, "There's a rainbow inside your mind ... Injected with a poison.... we don't need that any more."
Scott McKenzie: San Francisco
I really used to believe all this crap with all my heart. Peace and love and chemical dreams. If you've ever tripped out high upon higher and sublime upon sublime there is no way of bringing the beauty of the experience back with you... I once had a friend down who brought some cocaine. I did some lines and was soon stuck to the ceiling. I had tickets for a rave in south London. He was too wasted to go. So I had to negotiate an hour and a half nightbus ride all the way down. By Trafalgar Square I was eeing out on 2 pills as well and my eyes such massive discs I couldn't read the bus time tables and had to tell passers-by I'd "forgotten my reading glasses" (how embarrassing)... then I arrived around 3pm. DUR! Not pm (wasn't THAT late 3AM): though these pills didn't wear off till well after 11am which made them superstrong... anyhow... Security let me straight in I'd obviously taken all my drugs (indeed I had: felt like I was flying by this point)... first person I encountered was a middle-aged woman in a ball gown swaying back and forth in the foyer (Brixton Academy: a venue for 5000) I told her: "you are so cool". We subsequently made friends. Watching this video and seeing how stuck in the neverending moment of bliss some "flower kids" are I remember this lady having to tell me: "there's the party. Then the party's over. You have to accept that." But I never could. I wanted happiness to last for ever...

Should my daily videos stay giant on the top or go mini on my sidebar? (You can only vote once.)
Doggie or Kittie?
You Are: 50% Dog, 50% Cat
You are a nice blend of cat and dog.
You're playful but not too needy. And you're friendly but careful.
And while you have your moody moments, you're too happy to stay upset for long.
38 year-old guy, 6 blogs (the main one is gledwood vol 2 so go there for new postings: blogs are linked via my sidebars), I also have 3 video blogs. One mainly music vids, the other random "novelty" clips from Youtube/etc. The third is my Fabulous Celebrity Blog for fans of trash culture. Unfortunately addicted to drugs - yes it was my own fault but what can I do about it now? Addicted means trapped & can't stop. That's how addicted I am. But that's not ALL I blog about. Apart from drugs I love drink. Apart from drink I'm into little furry animals like Pingpong, my Chinese hamster, and my 3 roborovski hamsters: Itchy, Bashful and Spherical... and ... er, food. Lately there has been a drought of the substance that enslaved me for so long. Will I clean up? Only time will tell...
Fun, comforting, and friendly.
You are a true classic, and while you're not super cutting edge, you're high quality.
People love your company - and have even been known to get addicted to you.
